Target audience

Staff who are new Mentors on STARS. You must have a category of Advance HE fellowship and completed the Mentoring expressions of interest form prior to booking.

Course pre-work

Will be circulated in advance. To read and provide feedback on two exemplar applications.

Course information

The St Andrews Recognition Scheme (STARS) is an Advance HE accredited scheme that provides participants with structured opportunities and support to reflect on their practice and prepare a claim for recognition against one of the following Professional Standards Framework (PSF 2023) Descriptors, as appropriate to their context: D1 (Associate Fellow), D2 (Fellow), or D3 (Senior Fellow).

This briefing provides induction training for those new to Mentors on STARS. Please read the Professional Standards Framework 2023 beforehand. This session will include:

  • A brief comparison of PSF Descriptors D1, D2 and D3
  • An explanation of STARS processes
  • An explanation of your role as a Mentor

To complete your Mentor Induction training, you must also attend one STARS Mentor/Reviewer Benchmarking Training session.

Aims and objectives

By the end of the briefing participants should be able to:

  1. Explain the PSF2023 and the requirements for different categories of Fellowship
  2. Explain your responsibilities as a Mentor on STARS
