IELLI invites HEA Fellows to join STARS as a Mentor/Reviewer

8 July 2025

STARS is an AdvanceHE accredited scheme that provides support to colleagues preparing a claim for recognition using the Professional Standards Framework. Participants on STARS are assigned a mentor who provides guidance during the application process.  Applications are assessed by trained internal Reviewers.

Acting as a Mentor and/or Reviewer in STARS allows you to have a positive impact on colleagues’ careers, fostering growth and advancement in teaching and learning in Higher Education.  Engagement with STARS may also contribute to evidence for the service promotion criteria, or on HEA Senior Fellow applications.

We are always seeking new Mentors and Reviewers to enable us to expand the number of places on the scheme. The next cohort will start in September. Mentors and Mentees will be matched in late September and the mentorship period runs until the middle of Semester 2.  Reviewers will be asked to review applications between Weeks 6-8 of Semester 2,  with the Recognition Panel taking place in Week 9.

You must hold a category of HEA Fellowship to become a STARS Mentor or Reviewer. All Mentors are asked to mentor at least two colleagues per academic year.  Being a Reviewer involves reviewing a maximum of 4 Fellow applications (or equivalent thereof).

Please complete this form to register your interest in becoming a STARS mentor or reviewer. Colleagues must complete STARS Induction training before they can take on either role. See the online booking system for the upcoming Mentor Induction training sessions in September.
