TERWHITT, FRANCIS [SSNE 8417]
Text source
Captain Francis Terwhitt was an English officer in the Thirty Years' War. He first served as an ensign in the Palatinate before being promoted to captain in the regiment of Lord Willoughby in 1624. This regiment served in the Dutch Republic, but was ultimately sent into Danish service under the command of General Sir Charles Morgan [SSNE 89]. Captain Terwhitt remained with the regiment until the end of the expedition and returned to the Dutch Republic in May 1628. Unlike many of the captains in the Morgan expedition, Terwhitt was retained in Dutch service and was placed into a reorganized regiment under Morgan's command in 1629.
