James Downy was a Scottish citizen and merchant of Posen/Posnan. In 1652 he was noted for openly disagreeing with the concept of the Immaculate Conception in a pub. He also served as a guarantor, along with Andrew Cochrane [SSNE 7040] for William Hayson [SSNE 1097] from Aberdeen who became a burgess of the town in 1649.
