William Johnstone was an ensign in Alexander [SSNE 380]/John Hamilton's [SSNE 2595] regiment Swedish service from 1629-1630. He is probably the same as William Johnston listed in the Danish-Norwegian army in Lord Spynies' [SSNE 177] regiment, which disbanded in September 1628. When King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway made peace with the Emperor many of the Scots in Danish service then entered the Swedish army. This may be the same man as SSNE 3949
