Text source

Gilbert Sandersen Gordon was the son of Alexander Gordon who came from Brusst or Banff in Scotland and moved to Bergen in Norway c.1630. He was made a burgess cooper on 16 February 1631. He married Elizabeth Vernton, possibly a daughter of Gilbert Wentoun, and with her had three children, Gilbert, Alexander and Lisbeth. Gilbert followed in his father's trade and became a burgess cooper of Bergen, admitted on 3 March 1687. He married Maren Knutsdatter and with her had two children, Elizabeth and Rachel Gilbertsdatter Gordon before his death in 1691. When Gilbert died, Maren married Zacharias Olsen and had a son whom she called Gilbert and who interestingly used the surname of Gordon rather than Olsen or Zachariasen.
