Johan Carl Ramsay was born in 1683(one source says June 1675) in Finland. He was probably related to Alexander Ramsay [SSNE 1636] and his family. He volunteered as a musketeer in the Livgard on 25 March 1699 and became an NCO in 1700. His promotion to officer came in 1704 and by 1721 he was lieutenant colonel of the Savolak and Nyslott infantry. In 1726 he was with the Nyland dragoon regiment which he became colonel for in 1739 and he eventually retired as major-general in 1742. He died the same year in November in Stockholm. In 1724 he married Inga Charlotta Silverststråle.A.
