Johan Leijel lived from 1664 to 1744. He was the son of David Leijel of Arbroath [SSNE 824] who had arrived in Sweden in 1638 with his brothers James [SSNE 4934] and Henry [SSNE 3614]. His mother was Catharina Honnon [SSNE 7572] of the Dunfermline family of that name. Johan was baptised in Nikolai Kyrka in Stockholm on 6 January 1664. After graduating from Uppsala, Johan became involved in the family business in Alvkarle around 1678. By 1685 he was "auskultant" with Stockholm town hall and treasury courts in Stockholm. Johan became a lawyer by 1694, a town councillor in 1706 and mayor of trade in 1731. He was a member of the Riksdag from 1713-23. As oart of his duties Johan was chosen to serve on the special commission which tried Georg Heinrich von Görtz, Baron of Schlitz (1668 – February 19, 1719) in the Riksdag, and signed the verdict given on 11 February 1719. Görtz  was beheaded on 19 Feb 1719. Johan died in 1744. His brothers were Peter [SSNE 1451] and David [SSNE 3622], while his cousins were Adam Jacobsson [SSNE 836] and Adam Henriksson [SSNE 3772] and Jacob [SSNE 2359], and through the latter he obtained Vallnora factory. He married and had two sons, Petter and Carl.
