Murdo Mackenzie lived from 1600-1688. He was the son of John Mackenzie, resident at Coire Mhic NĂ²buil in Torridon and was the first laird of Groundwater in Orkney. He served as the regimental chaplain to Donald Mackay's [SSNE 93] regiment first in Danish, then in Swedish service from 1629-1630. He was later minister of Suddie, Ross-shire. He subsequently became Bishop of Moray, 1662-1677, and then Bishop of Orkney 1677-1688.
