Text source

Laurentz Duwall was the son of Jacob Duwall [SSNE 1640], grandson of Jacob Duwall [SSNE 1623], and great grandson of Albrekt MacDougall [SSNE 2444] and must therefore be considered a Swede, despite being described as Scottish in several sources. After studying at Uppsala University, along with his brothers Jacob [SSNE 2456] and Gustav [SSNE 2450], Laurentz Duwall joined the army. He was first rustmastare in the Lifegard. In 1689 he became a sergeant and by 1690 he was fanrik in Peter Makaleer's recruited infantry regiment. In 1692 he became a lieutenant.
