Text source

James Drummond was a Scottish officer in Swedish service (often confused with his namesake [SSNE 1622]). He was a captain in David Drummond's [SSNE 2396] regiment from 1635-1636, and then he appears to have served in the Bjorneborg regiment, until his death in 1642, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel [if this was the same man]. There was a captain James Drummond in Colonel Axel Axelsson Stalarm's regiment from 1641-July 1642 which may have been the same man. James wrote a letter to Axel Oxenstierna dated November 1647. In his letter to Oxenstierna Drummond was requesting release from the Swedish army, having single handedly led a force of 120 men in his colonel's absence, and having suffered capture by Major General Brun at Ditmarsken. A date of death of 3 May 1654 has been suggested. This is possibly the same James Drummond, 2nd son of Lord Maderty who is said to have been an officer in foreign military service during the Thirty Years' War. [SSNE 2405].
