E. Marquard, Danske Gesandter og Gesandtskabspersonale indtil 1914 (Copenhagen, 1952). Lente was actually the Danish Resident in Holland, though he became an extraordinary envoy to the Stuart Court in November 1680 probably due to the death of Christian Lindenlove. He returned to England in 1681, the same year in which he became a royal councillor. Between 1685 and 1688, Lente remained in England despite being reappointed as the Resident to the Netherlands. The reason appears to have been the failure of his replacement to arrive.
