GSIS Community Fund: Visit to St Andrews Aquarium
On Monday 1 December 2025 some of our Global Sustainable Development MSc students had a fantastic trip to the St Andrews Aquarium.
Fellow GSD student and organiser of the trip, Amber Farram noted "...we took part in the Sharks and Rays educational session. Fin, one of the keepers and an expert in elasmobranchs, gave us a talk on these species as we watched an exciting shark and ray feeding. He gave us some fun facts on sharks and talked about the role the aquarium plays in monitoring of species. After the talk, we watched the meerkats feeding before exploring the rest of the aquarium. Our highlights included the axolotls, marmosets, reptiles and a whole array of colourful fish, although sadly the penguins did not want to say hi!
We wrapped up the afternoon with well-earned pizzas just outside the aquarium cafe, giving everyone a chance to chat and compare their favourite animals of the day. The trip was generously funded by the GSIS Community Fund and we are already looking forward to planning even more events and trips for our postgraduate community in the new year".
