DHI Masters Scholarships

15 August 2024

The Graduate School for Interdisciplinary Studies (GSIS) at the University of St Andrews are delighted to have been awarded two Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI) scholarships this summer for the MSc Health Data Science programme 2024/25 and look forward to welcoming our two new DHI scholars in September.

The DHI scholarships are an innovative national programme, part-funded by the Scottish Funding Council, to support the development of future talent in the field of digital health and care.

“Worldwide, models of health and care are struggling to meet the challenge of ageing populations. Digital health and care interventions are recognised as key to the solution in tackling this crisis using modern technologies and digital services. They are not only changing the way we communicate but offer more innovative ways for monitoring our health and wellbeing and provide greater access to personal data for self-management."

It empowers us to track, manage and improve our health and care environments, leading to greater independence and improved health outcomes. By innovating we can reduce inefficiencies in health and care delivery, improve access, reduce costs, increase quality of care, make health services more person-centred and personalise medicine for a patient’s unique needs.” DHI 2024

Past Awardee: Heather Tiernan
Heather Tiernan, a past DHI awardee and MSc Health Data Science student, was awarded the first ever co-funded (School of Medicine/School of Computer Science) interdisciplinary Health Data Science PhD studentship at the University of St Andrews resulting from her experience and achievements on the MSc programme in 2023/24. She will be working with Professor Silvia Paracchini in the School of Medicine on the PhD project "Unravelling Genetic Risk Variants in Neurodevelopmental Conditions."

Looking Ahead
For students interested in pursuing a Masters degree in digital health and care, the DHI scholarships offer an invaluable opportunity to contribute to and shape the future of this vital sector.  The funding call for scholarships for programmes in 2025/26 will be released by DHI in Spring 2025.
