Welcome to the first edition of St Andrews in the News in 2022 and a happy new year to all our alumni, friends, parents and supporters around the world.

New Year’s Honours

Dr Maggie Ellis (School of Psychology and Neuroscience); Professor Ailsa Hall (Emeritus Professor of Biology and former director of the Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU); and Professor Anne Magurran (Professor of Ecology and Evolution in the Centre for Biological Diversity and the Scottish Oceans Institute (SOI) have been named in the New Year’s Honours list in recognition of their work. 

University of St Andrews Global Burns Night 

Join us for our second annual Global Burns Night on Tuesday 25 January at 7pm GMT as we raise a glass to the 'Ploughman Poet' on the 263rd anniversary of his birth.

Telephone Campaign – it will be good to talk!

We are delighted to announce that we’re gearing up for our second offsite telethon, and that recruitment for our student callers is well underway. Calling will take place between 7 February and 13 March, so please look out for an email and take ten minutes – if you can – to talk to one of our students. They can’t wait to tell you about all the exciting things that are happening at the University just now.

Save the date: Alumni Weekend 2022

Save the date for this year's Alumni Weekend from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 April. Highlights include a special alumni dinner on Friday 15 April and the annual University Public Meeting on Saturday 16 April when key issues and opportunities will be discussed. 

The full programme will be available soon. If you would like help to reconnect with fellow alumni so you can attend as a group or celebrate a graduation anniversary please contact us.

SaintsFunder

This month’s spotlight falls on OperaLab: Opsnizing Dad - a partnership between the Laidlaw Music Centre, the University and The Wallace Collection to provide opportunities for young musicians to originate and perform new material. 

The St Andrews Africa Summit (SAASUM) - another exciting new project - is an annual one-day summit led by students to stimulate dialogue about African issues.
