International

The University of St Andrews welcomes students from around the world. Approximately 30 per cent of our student population join us from overseas, with some 1,500 undergraduates representing more than 120 different nationalities. At St Andrews there are students from almost every state in the USA and province in Canada, representing around 15 per cent of the student population. Other students arrive from Japan, China, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Africa, India, the West Indies and even further afield.

We encourage all international students to check the entrance requirements of the University before applying.

Some of our summer schools are of particular interest to international students. We offer English Language Teaching summer schools, as well as summer programmes for school-aged students.

International students who wish to study at the University, but whose school-leaving qualifications are not recognised as satisfying the entrance requirements, may take a foundation programme before beginning their undergraduate studies.

The University sets specific language requirements for non-native English speakers. Students may work with English Language Teaching to develop their language skills in a university environment.

The Study Abroad team supports both St Andrews students who wish to study at a partner institution for a period of time, as well as international students who come to study abroad at the University.

The University offers advice on visas, living and working in Scotland and a range of other information to make moving to the UK as smooth a process as possible for international students.

Brazilian students may be able to study at the University through the Brazilian government’s Science without Borders scheme. Take a look at the requirements on the Science without Borders page.

The University always welcomes contact from international college counsellors and advisers. College counsellors are also invited to visit St Andrews on our annual two day college counsellors visit.
