Not all Summer School courses lead to undergraduate credit. International Foundation courses are normally
only available to international students.
The University follows the Joint Academic Coding System (JACS) when organising its curriculum. JACS is
used by all other higher education organisations including UCAS and HESA. This coding system is currently used
to code the academic subjects of all higher education courses and the individual modules within them. The codes
listed here represent the academic subject areas available at the University of St Andrews.

While most programmes of study are delivered full-time it may be possible to study part-time even if
the course is not listed as available by this mode of study.
Under UKBA immigration rules there is no provision
for international students to study part-time at St Andrews. If you are in the UK on a student visa you must
be registered full-time, regardless of your level of study. As an undergraduate, the opportunity for part-time
study is available in all faculties except Medicine.
To qualify for part-time status you must show that you
have insufficient time available to pursue studies full-time or cannot study full-time because of ill health.
Many undergraduate courses allow some time to be spent studying abroad. Specific programmes of study which
a year of study abroad are called ‘with integrated year abroad’ (WIYA) courses.
Most full-time undergraduate courses are available over four or five years. Most postgraduate taught
courses are delivered over one or two years.
