Largo, 9th July 2014
University of St Andrews Staff 108/3 (19.3 overs) beat Largo 105-7 (20 overs) by 9 wickets
(S. Frankland 64*, A. Ward 27*)(S. Frankland 2-9, D. Miller 2-10)
St Andrews extended their winning run on a glorious summer evening at Largo.
Boosted by the addition of some young Largoids, St Andrews bowled first and
the tactic of using Stan to open paid dividends with a wicket maiden in his
first over - an edge behind being parried by Alyn to be safely taken at slip.
Dave then got the Largo captain out as he attempted to hit over the top.
Stand-in skipper Phil changed the bowling around and although Ben Coates scored
quickly, dealing exclusively in boundaries, less urgency from the other Largo
batsmen meant that St Andrews were able to keep the scoring rate down helped
by a tight spell from Alex and Ben then being stumped off Stan. Graham chipped
in with a wicket in a rare spell and Dave picked up his second at the end of
the innings as Largo finished on 105-7.
Dom C and Stan started off confidently in putting on 26 quickly before Dom was
bowled. Graham was then undone by a Willie Anderson full toss, finding the only
fielder not on the leg-side boundary. Stefan managed some resistance, including
a boundary, before Willie did for him as well to leave us at 49-3. Stan continued
on his way, finding singles easily, punctuated with the odd boundary. With Andy
providing support at the other end St Andrews needed around 7 an over off the
last 5 before Andy hit consecutive boundaries in a big over to bring the rate
down. Stan finished the chase with a 4 in the last over to end on 64* at better
than a run a ball, Andy finishing 27*, and the partnership reaching 59.
