Captain David Cathcart was one of the original captains in Buccleuch's [SSNE 5010] "new" regiment in the Scots-Dutch Brigade. He took oath on 20 December 1603 and commanded 150 men with a salary of £1925, although in actuality it may have only been 77 men. Further information on Captain Cathcart cannot be found in Ferguson. Two further mentions exist, one in regards to his ensign, James Douglas, in 1608 and another in regards to Sergeant Jacob Scott, who was killed at Alkmaar in 1615 while serving under Cathcart.
