Andrew Caddel was an officer in the old regiment of the Scots Brigade between 1623-1640. He received his commission as captain on 13 June 1623 and succeeded command of Captain J. Seton's company. He was promoted to sergeant-major on 13 March 1636 and assumed command of James Erskine's [SSNE 8002] company. This promotion came with the death of Colonel Brog [SSNE 7842] and the promotion of James Erskine and James Sandilands [SSNE 4996]. Caddel was taken prisoner at Kallo (Calloo) in 1638 along with 20 other members of his company (including his lieutenant [SSNE 8191], ensign [SSNE 8192], and sergeant). After intercession by Charles I on the condition that the officers released would not serve against the House of Austria for a year. Nonetheless, Caddel was promoted to lieutenant-colonel on 17 March 1639. He was dead by 13 April 1640 and Captain William Lyle [SSNE 8014] assumed command of his company.

Caddel married Maria Hoogerbeerts in December 1636. Some trouble seemed to arise over the wedding in The Hague so it appears the couple finished the contracts in Utrecht later that month.
