The Wolle family in Abo are described as being either German or Scots, though the Scottish connection is the one given most credence by sources consulted for this biography. This is partly because the wife of Hans Wolle (Elisabeth Davidson) wrote her account book in the Scots language, while one of the younger Wolle's also married a Scot. There were numerous other connections. Hans is said to have moved to Abo in 1596, although he was still called a burgess of Narva in 1599. Nonetheless, he remained in Abo until his death in 1613.
