Text source

The Wolle family in Abo are described as being either German or Scots, though the Scottish connections of Jacob in particular have been taken by many to support the Scottish origins of the family. Jacob senior arrived in Abo in 1609 and died in 1653. He was said to have been one of the most important burgesses in Abo and in 1616 it was he who furnished the king's table in Helsinki. The Wolles' traded in iron and other goods, and the treasury records for 1623-1628 show that Jacob Wolle furnished the garrisons of Reval, Pernau and Weissenstein with around 140,000 daler of which some 15,000 was in cash. Jacob had been married to Anna Spranckhusen.
