Jacob Clerck was the son of Alexander Clerck [SSNE 788] and his wife Cathrina. Jacob Clerck was born in April 1667 and baptised on 23 April 1667.

Jacob Clerck came from a line of goldsmiths: he was the grandson of the Scotsman James(Jacob) Clerck [SSNE 4932], a goldsmith who died in Stockholm about 1615. Jacob's grandmother was Anna Eriksdotter (who married another goldsmith, Joakim von der fecht in 1617).

Jacob Clerck studied at Uppsala in 1683 and went on to become a lawyer.

Jacob Clerck appears to have been ennobled 1699.
