Text source
Jacob Clerck was the son of Alexander Clerck [SSNE 788] and his wife Cathrina. He was born in April 1667 and baptised on 23 April 1667. He studied at Uppsala in 1683 and went on to become a lawyer. He appears to have been ennobled 1699. Jacob came from a line of goldsmiths: he was the grandson of the Scotsman James(Jacob) Clerck [SSNE 4932], a goldsmith who died in Stockholm about 1615. Jacob's grandmother was Anna Eriksdotter (who married another goldsmith, Joakim von der fecht in 1617).Svenska Adelns Attartavlor, vol. II, p.24; Andersson et al, Uppsala Universitets Matrikel, (Uppsala, 1900-1911); T. Fischer, The Scots in Sweden (Edinburgh, 1907), p.260; Stockholms råd och rådhus, part II (Stockholm, 1918), p.189. NB (OBS) There is some confusion here in this last source which states the same parents for Jacob, but adds that he became a councillor in the city in 1672 and died in 1679 being buried in Storkyrkan.
