CLERCK, JAMES [SSNE 4932]
Text source
James (Jacob) Clerck, was a Scottish goldsmith who was active in Stockholm in the early seventeenth century. He was a brother of the more famous Admiral John Clerck [SSNE 4159], a leading member of the Scottish maritime community in Stockholm.
James Clerck was married to Anna Eriksdotter (who later married another goldsmith, Joakim von der fecht in 1617), whom he married in 1605. His son, Alexander [SSNE 788] followed his father's and step-father's craft and became a goldsmith, also in Stockholm where he could be found working throughout the reign of Queen Christina (1644-1654). Alexander married Cathrina and had at least one son, Jacob (born April 1667), who studied in Uppsala in 10/02/1683 and went on to become a lawyer. It is possible that Alexander also fathered Hans Clerck (1640-1679) who was also a goldsmith of Scottish origins who worked in Stockholm.
James Clerck died in Stockholm about 1615
