Daniel Crockat was noted as a merchant who became a burgess of Gothenburg in March 1673. However he was certainly settled in the town before that time as he regularly imported or exported goods to and from Scotland. In 1668 he sent various timber products to Dundee with skipper Thomas Drummond; in 1670 he sent bar iron, wood planks and tar again to Dundee, and in 1675 he exported iron to both Leith and Crail. He also traded with other places: Hull (1671, 74, 1692-3); London(1671, 74-5, 84, 86, 88-9, 91, 93-6); Hamburg (1674, 89-90); Newcastle (1674); Plymouth (1675); Danzig (1685); Lubeck (1689-90); Stettin (1691); Wolgast (1692); Greifswald (1692) . Robert Clerk [SSNE 6127] frequently also appeared on the same ship manifests. It is as yet uncertain what his nationality was, although Fischer notes the Crockat family as Scottish. He appeared as a godparent at various baptisms at Christina Church in Gothenburg from 1680 thruogh 1708. His daughter Sara Maria was baptised on 19 August 1696 and Mrs James Duncan was godparent. He was a godparent at Robert Clerck's [SSNE 6127] daughter, Elisabeth's [SSNE 6246] baptism on 1 February 1674 along with Lt Col Hamilton and Major Maclean. Daniel died and was buried on 2 January 1723 at the age of 71. His wife had already died of a severe fever and was buried 15 May 1710. He was probably related to Collin [SSNE 6122] and Henry [SSNE 7228].
