Hans Merser, a merchant, became a burgess of Gothenburg in June 1672. He may be related to the earlier Mersers settled in Gothenburg, esp James [SSNE 4839]. According to Dalhede's database a man with his name appeared on the shipping lists between 1660 and 1672, dealing with London (1660, 72), Amsterdam(1661), Stockholm (1662), Riga (1664), Hamburg (1664, 70, 72), Stralsund (1666), Danzig (1666), Hull(1667), and King's Lynn (1667). This would mean that he was trading out of Gothenburg for quite some time before he became a burgess.E. Långström, Göteborgs stads borgarelängd 1621-1864, (Gothenburg, 1926), p.40; C.
