William Paterson was a merchant and later a councillor. He was born c. 1541 and died on 10/9/1616. Paterson married in May 1584 to Else Hinrichsdatter. When she died he married Anne Aagesdatter. Throughout his life he had business relations with Vadstena (1570-97). Paterson's servant, John Craig, was fined for illegal trade in 1587 and in 1596 Paterson was successfully sued by Richard Waterston of Vadstena for a debt incurred in 1570. In 1597 his Danish servant Lasse Danske was fined for illegal trade and ordered to leave the city. Hans Jacobsen of Malmo lent Paterson 300 daler on 28/8/1590 and paterson was involved in litigation with David Paterson of Malmo, concerning the inheritance after the passing of Hans Jacobsen of Malmo.T.
