In March 1626 Aberdeen burgh council provided a birthbrieve for William Anderson, confirming that he was the son of Alexander Anderson of Petindrum, Aberdeenshire and his wife Catherine Goudis. The brieve noted that William was born and educated in Scotland and was now resident in Norway, but did not specify where.
