Margaretha Bursie was the daugher of the councillor and postmaster in Jonköping, Peter Bursie [SSNE 5060] and his Swedish wife, Elin Törne. Her brother was Hans Peterson Bursie [SSNE 5059]. Margaretha married Captain George Livingstone [SSNE 2981]. Their son Thomas [SSNE 4352] was born in Elbing and was also in Swedish service and was ennobled with the name Hubbestad. She wrote to the Swedish authorities requesting he be allowed to travel to Scotland tolearn about his heritage. But would also like his position kept open for him to resume service upon his return.

Reference is made to Captain George Lievingstein in a letter signed by Margaret Bursie in which she adds in a Scots hand "god bles y(z)our lordship & pray y(z)our lordship pitey me" - quite remarkable for a woman born in Sweden of a Swedish mother to be literate in Scots. Female.
