Gustaf Adolf Maclean was born in Sweden on 7 January 1693 or 1697. He became a corpral with the Bohus län dragoons on 25 January 1710, but was commissioned to lieutenant soon after. Maclean was taken prisoner at Tönnigen in May 1713, but released soon after. He served as a captain in the Västgota cavalry in 1716 and was recorded as a colonel in 1748, the year he left service. He died in on 27 January 1779. He married Elizabeth Maria Gronberg. Portraits of both him and his wife hang at Brunnrby Manor, Östergötland .
