David Campbell was born in Jämtland in 1688 and was, perhaps, the illigitimate son of Corporal Constantine Campbell (and thus great grandson of the Scot, Major Carl Campbell who came to Sweden in 1609 [SSNE 2016]). David Campbell joined the army as a volunteer in 1709 and took part in the operations around Hälsingborg in 1710. That year he commanded some part of naval squadron to Kjögebukt, perhaps a marine detachment. Campbell took part in the Norwegian campaigns of Carl XII. He lived untilb15 September 1732. He married Christina Charlotta Slorf and they had many children.
