William Troup was an officer in the Danish-Norwegian army. He was a major in 1628 and received his reckoning by 18 October that year. He also received payment on behalf of Captain John Lindsay [SSNE 397/582?], not before 30/8/1628. This may be the same man as Sergeant Major Troope who had a company under Sir Frederick Hamilton [SSNE 1184] in Swedish service in 1631-32. These men were raised as part of the army of James Maquis of Hamilton [SSNE 1348], but fought in a different theatre of war. Monro notes that by 1632, Troup held the rank of lieutenant colonel and was killed in the Paltz sometime before 1636.
