Jorgen Otto Brockenhus was the son of Sophie Spang who was most probably the daughter of the Scottish officer in the Norwegian army, Colonel Andrew Spang. It is not known where Sophie was born, but her parentage makes Brockenhus either a Scot, or a Scoto-Norwegian for the purpose of this database. His father was Ove Brockenhus, an officer in the army. Jorgen Brockenhus served as an ensign in the Dutch army from a very early age and then held the rank of captain lieutenant with Krag's regiment in Norway aged only 13 or 14. By 1698 he had been promoted to the rank of Major. He finished his career as colonel in chief with the Opplanske infantry in Norway. He married first Blanchflor Sophie Due and then Magdalane BrockenhusJ. Sandberg, Kvinner gift med offiserer i den Norske Hær 1628-1814. Fra stabsfanejunker O.
