Thomas Hammond (1630-1681) was an Englishman who moved to Norway around 1655 and became a burgess of Trondheim soon after. His wife Elisabeth, was the daughter of Henry Sommershell/Summershill, an English-born merchant in Trondheim, and his wife Anna Rorig. She gave birth very soon after their wedding around November 1659, but by royal decree they were to be free of church censure. Thomas paid 100 rigsdaler to the Crown and 20 rigsdaler to the poor fund for Trondheim. That same year, Hammond bought land and established farm no. 137 "Thomas Hammond" where he lived until 1662. On 13 September 1669, Hammond, along with Christen Rasmusen and David Jacobsen claimed their outlay of 1200 rdl in Raadstuen Gaard (farm no. 14a) in Trondheim. Thomas Hammond died in 1681. On 12 April 1690 there was a dispute over the estate of Thomas Hammond in Trondheim between his son, Thomas Hammond junior [SSNE 5399], Morten Angell and Johan Molman agianst the police commissioner, Peder Paulsen. The inheritors could not agree with Paulsed over the amount of his share. Thomas junior had taken over farm 137 and merged it with a neighbouring farm, on 26 July 1692. Thomas Hammond senior had other sons called Edward and Johan.
