William Leermouth was born in Edinburgh and moved to Bergen where he became a burgess on 8 August 1672. He married Karen Robbertsdatter, from an Orkney family, who died on 26 August 1722. She was a sister of David Robertson whom she lived with in Efuert Robbertson's house after July 1681 suggesting that William was dead. The couple had several children including Regine, Michael and Cathriana. The latter daughter married Jacob Davidsen Frich of Finnmark, and with him she had a son, David Frich
