William Leermouth was born in Edinburgh. He moved to Bergen where he became a burgess on 8 August 1672. He married Karen Robbertsdatter who died on 26 August 1722. She was a sister of David Robertson whom she lived with in the Orcadian, Effuert Robbertson's house after July 1681 suggesting that William was dead. The couple had several children including Regine, Michael and Cathriana. She has been called a sister to David Robertson and probably had the same relationship to Effeurt, making her an Orcadian too.
