John Gordon was the illegitimate son or grandson of Adam Gordon in Doll (Clyne parish in Sutherland). John was an officer in colonel Donald Mackay's [SSNE 93] regiment in Danish-Norwegian service in 1627. He was later a Colonel himself in Dutch service.
