ROSS, JACOB [SSNE 4940]
- First name
- BORGMASTARE, MAYOR
Jacob Ross is recorded as being a Borgmastare in Vasa, Finland between 1689 and 1699. He was a relative of a previous major, Johan Ross [SSNE 6451] and the family were certainly Scottish. Jacob's father was William Ross [SSNE 7304] who moved to Vasa in 1627 and died in 1648. According to some genealogists, William's father (and Jacob's grandfather) was George Ross who came from Kindeis in Scotland and who was in debt in Sweden in 1617. Jacob Ross founded an iron foundry in Orisberg in Osterbotten in 1676 which he co-owned until 1694. He had a brother called Herman Ross (1636-1687) [SSNE 7305] who was also both merchant and mayor of the town
