Text source

Thomas Stewart was a burgess in Nylose and became a member of the town council in 1603. He was noted for having become "Germanicised" at least in terms of his speech. This is probably the same Thomas Stewart noted as a councillor for Gothenburg from 1621-1630 after the dissolution of Nylose and its replacement with Gothenburg. However, Thomas appears to have returned to Nylose as a burgess in 1619, but then served as a councillor in Gothenburg from 1622-1630/1. He died in 1631 and his widow's name was given as Margaretha Persdotter. She subsequently remarried Peter Bursie [SSNE 5060].
