Nathaniel Middleton was a seaman from the Duchy "grevskapet" of Durham in England. The Sollied Arkiv notes state he was born in that county and became a citizen of Bergen on 15 June 1694. He appears to have died by 7 August 1696 and he had been married twice. He had two sons from his first marriage, Willum and Walter, both born before 1693. After his first wife died, Middleton married Gildsche Ellertsdal Garboe (c.1694) and with her had a daughter, Anne Kristine Nathanaelsdatter
