William Johnstone (aka Skotte) entered Dutch naval service and served there 1672-4. He had arrived in Sweden by December 1683, where he became sub lieutenant in the navy on 1/5/1684. Johnstone served on the frigate 'Stenbocken' by 1690. He became "over lieutenant" in the navy on 26/3/1700 but died on 25/7/1704.
