Sir William Swann (c.1619-1678) was an English, probably Royalist, agent and merchant in north Germany. In 1651 he accompnied the Scottish General Patrick Ruthven [SSNE 3413] to Buxtehude where the old soldier died in or near the house of his relative, Colonel Patrick More [SSNE 1205]. In October 1652, William Swann sent condolences to Sweden on the death of Johan Casimir from Amsterdam. After the Stuart Restoration, he was stationed in Hamburg, becoming resident there in 1662 and master of the English Court (Merchant Adventurers) in 1664. Additionally he had missions to various German states and Hanse towns. He returned to England in the spring/summer of 1675 and died around August 1678 aged 59 years old.
