Richard Smith was a captain in the Danish-Norwegian navy in 1641. He was sent to the Atlantic in command of the 'Den Hollanske Galej' 14/6/1641. Riis notes him as Scottish.T. Riis, Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot (Odense, 1988), II, p.95.
