David Wilhelm Sinclair was born in Västergotland, c.1694. He was the son of William Sinclair [SSNE 3519] by his second marriage and a half brother of Malcolm Sinclair [SSNE 4919] . David became an NCO in December 1707 and was commissioned to ensign in 1709. His promotion continued to captain, after which he briefly left service in 1718. He rejoined the Drottnings Liv Regiment in Pomerania on 26 November 1720 and remained in service for another 21 years. Sinclair died on 25 November 1770 unmarried.
