William Mudy served as an ensign with Melker Wurmbrandt's regiment in Riga between 1625-6. He was then a lieutenant in A. R. de la Chapelle's dragoon company in 1627. In 1628 Moody served with Pierre de Versee's company where he was promoted to captain. In 1629 he was also a captain with Västmanland regiment. When Captain William Philip [SSNE 4803] returned to Sweden from February until May 1629, Mudy was appointed to take over Philip's company in Colonel Bengt Bagge's regiment stationed at Dirschau. In 1630 he was reformed captain with Donald Mackay's [SSNE 93] (Lord Reay's) regiment. Mudy served until 1636 when he served again as a captain in William Gunn's [SSNE 159] recruited infantry squadron. In 1641 he served as a major in the Uppland regiment.

It is not known if he was related to his namesake, Captain William Mudy [SSNE 8358], but the difference in rank and service record suggests they are not the same man.
