Hector Monro of Foulis served in Danish service from 15/3/1626. He was later appointed ensign in Autumn 1628. He was reformed captain in the regiment of his brother-in-law, Donald Mackay [SSNE 93], in 1629 where he was also quartermaster. Like many of his countrymen, Monro transferred with the regiment to Sweden, and was appointed as a captain. In 1631 he was captain in Robert Monro's [SSNE 94] recruited squadron and made lieutenant colonel in the same unit the following year. In 1633, he succeeded his brother, Robert Monro of Fowlis [SSNE 179], to the burdened estate and chiefship. In spring 1634, he stood in attendance of Charles I in London with fellow military men. For his military service, Charles I granted him, in April 1634, a one-year protection against his creditors, presumably to settle the affairs of the family in Scotland after the death of his brother the chief. In June 1634, he was made a Baronet of Nova Scotia 1634. In late 1634-early 1635, Hector then returned to Germany with colonel Robert Monro. In 1635 he wrote to Johan Skytte jr [SSNE 6280] which implied that Skytte had requested his service in his regiment. Monro promised to travel to Bremen as soon as he was fit. Major John Beaton [SSNE 431] also wrote Skytte that year recommending Monro and he was made a full colonel just before he died in April in Hamburg. Hector was buried in Buxtehude.
