James Lindsay was in Fredrik von Rosen's infantry in 1630, then in Patrick Ruthven's [SSNE 3413] regiment in 1631. This is probably the same James Lindsay noted as an ensign under Colonel Kasper Ermes' in the Viborg infantry regiment in 1637. He then entered Karelia's cavalry regiment later that year. In 1644 Lindsay held land in Vederlak parish, Finland. By 1651 he became a lieutenant. In 1655 he was an adjutant in Lieutenant-Colonel James Lundie's free squadron and took part in the war in Scania against Denmark-Norway. Lundie's troop was destroyed by the enemy and Lindsay lost his position. He then volunteered with Colonel Offner and in 1658 he was captured in Holstein. He ransomed himself free and was appointed quartermaster in colonel Stoltzenberg's German regiment. He was again captured by the Danes in 1659. After ransoming himself again he returned to Finland. At some point he married Helena Hufvudskold, who died in 1666. His final post was as major in the Karelia cavalry. Shortly before he died, on 2 or 5 February 1667, he married Johanna Leslie. She herself died in October 1691. Jakob Lindsay died on Feb. 2, 1667 at his manor Alapihlaja. On his Coat of Arms his name is spelled JACOB LINTZ. The children of Lindsay and Helena Hufvudskiöld included Katarina Lindsay [SSNE 7192] (d.1676) who married Lieutenant Jürgen von Kraemer. She had a sister Helena Lindsay [SSNE 7193] (d.1690) who married Lieutenant Hans Klick. Their brother Erik Lindsay [SSNE 2956], inherited Alapihlaja manor in Finland in 1672. He served as a second-lieutenant in the Kronoberg Regiment in 1671. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1675 and was a field-officer in the regiment in 1676. The following year he was made captain and was raised to the rank of major in 1703 and liuetenant-colonel by 1705. He married but died in 1705 without any male heirs. There were other children who apparently died young.
