Born in 1624, Major Thomas Haliburton was a musketeer in 1652 in Captain Isenach's company in Holsten, although his own claim of entering Danish service is dated 1655, which is when he became a commanding officer. In 1656 he was a sergeant in Major Issen's company. In 1657 he was an ensign in Captain Rahn's company, and later became lieutenant. In 1660 Haliburton was captain and commandant at Steireburge's garrison (Steinburg). In 1664 he was lieutenant captain and by 1676 he became a major. He was captured in battle of Lund 1676. In 1678 Haliburton sought a permanent position and was last noted as a commandant in 1680. On 14 July 1672 Haliburton married Jacomina Ruetgers, the daughter of the baker and citizen Henr(y) Ruetgers, in the reformed church in Gluckstadt. He was then stationed as lieutenant captain in Friedrichsort. R
