Count Wilhelm Douglas was the son of Field Marshal Robert Douglas [SSNE 2378]. Like his father he joined the army. He served in a cavalry company in 1671, and then in 1674 he became lieutenant colonel in Klemens Grubbenhielm's Skane infantry regiment. Wilhelm died in February 1674 and was buried on 19 July of the same year. A funeral service was held for him in Maria Kyrka in Stockholm on 1 August. His connection to Scotland and Scotsmen had remained strong throughout his life and he even wrote to the Earl of Lauderdale in 1663. William had a son, also called William [SSNE 2379] who survived him
