Captain Hans Forrat began his military career as an ensign in Åke Oxenstierna's Uppland, Västmanland and Dalar regiment in 1622. By 1624 he became a lieutenant and in 1626 he transferred to Bengt Bagge's Västmanland regiment. In 1629 he became quartermaster with George Crawford's [SSNE 2086] regiment. This may be the same man who caused Alexander Hamilton to be ordered to appear before the military tribunal on 19 June 1641 in order to respond to a captain Hans (John)Foratt's charges against him. Forrat's promotion continued and he could be found serving as a captain in Gabriel Kyles Regiment in October 1642 (ending his service in the same regiment under Hugh Hamilton's command). Forrat was one of a number of uppland commanders sent to the fleet in 1644 to serve as marines. His company were stationed aboard the warship Mars which was blockaded in Kiel by the Danish navy. During the siege of this port, Forrat was killed c. 24 July 1644.
